COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. -- St. John's (Minn.) head hockey coach Doug Schueller announced the addition of Cory Thorson to his coaching staff as an assistant coach on Monday, Aug. 10.
A 2014 graduate of St. Cloud State, Thorson played four seasons of NCAA Division I hockey with the Huskies and scored 57 points (28g/29a) in 131 games. He was a member of the NCAA Midwest Regional All-Tournament team as the Huskies reached the NCAA Frozen Four in 2013.

"We are very excited to welcome Cory Thorson to the Johnnie Hockey family," Schueller said. "He will bring a wealth of knowledge to our hockey program through his experiences playing in the NAHL and at St. Cloud State. I am also excited to use his contacts within the NAHL and Minnesota high school hockey communities to help recruit the next class of Johnnie hockey student-athletes."
A native of Crystal, Minnesota, and a graduate of Robbinsdale Armstrong High School, Thorson totaled 110 points (57g/53a) in 129 games over two seasons with the Owatonna Express of the North American Hockey League before enrolling at SCSU. He was a nominee for the NAHL Player of the Year award in 2010.
The Johnnies tied for sixth place, one point out of the five-team MIAC Playoffs, with a 7-7-2 conference record (11-9-5 overall) in 2014-15. SJU suffered four one-goal losses in conference play, including two in overtime.
The team opens practice Oct. 15 and begins the 2015-16 season Oct. 31 against St. Thomas as part of the MIAC Showcase in Blaine.
