Considering Brooke Sharp’s persona on the soccer field – the aggressive way she attacks her midfield position, her perseverance in returning from injury – her old high school nickname, “The Bull,” makes a lot of sense. And so does her athletic lineage to another tenacious competitor, her great-grandfather Vince Lombardi, the legendary Hall of Fame coach of the Green Bay Packers. Sharp, a University of Florida sophomore, grew up in nearby Ponte Vedra. A framed photo of Sharp’s mother and their famous ancestor is always on display in the living room, and a few Lombardi quotes hang in the home office. Lombardi died in 1970, and not all of Sharp’s Florida teammates recognize her great-grandfather’s name. It definitely impressed another group on campus, however. “Some of the guys on the football team found out about it,” she said, “and they thought it was really cool.”
