Thompson was a member of the committee from 1995 to 2000 and served as chair in 1999-2000. Thompson is currently a member of the NCAA Division I Council, the Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee and the Men’s Basketball Legislative Subcommittee. Because the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee reports to the Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee, Thompson will step down from his position on the MBOC.
“We’re excited to have someone with Craig’s background and experience returning to the committee,” said Dan Gavitt, the NCAA’s senior vice president of basketball. “We knew going into the 2017-18 season we would already have three new people, so to get a veteran rather than a fourth first-year member is significant.”
Thompson is in his 20th year leading the Mountain West Conference through the ever-changing landscape of intercollegiate athletics. In addition to his duties with the Conference and the NCAA Council, Thompson serves on the College Football Playoff Management Committee and is a member of the College Football Officiating Board of Managers, LLC.
