Indiana rallies to down No. 8 Saint Louis

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- After giving up a goal just 14 seconds into the match, Indiana rallied for three unanswered scores in a 3-1 victory against No. 8 Saint Louis Wednesday night on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.

With the win, No. 16 Indiana improved to 6-1-3 on the season, while the Billikens dropped to 7-2.

Fans weren't even settled into their seats before Robert Kristo gave the Billikens a 1-0 lead with his seventh goal of the season coming in the first minute. Francisco Vizcaino headed the ball on to Kristo, who spotted IU goalkeeper Colin Webb off his line. Kristo sent in a looper from 35 yards out over Webb's head for the score.

Indiana did not hang its collective heads and was right back in the match as its first shot of the game found the back of the net at 7:59. Right back Billy McConnell made a run toward the middle of the field before slotting the ball through traffic to Matt Foldesy. Foldesy ran onto the service and hit a low shot that beat goalkeeper Sascha Otte to knot the match at 1-1. That marked his first goal as a Hoosier.

The Hoosiers had another chance in the 12th minute on a free kick from Tanner Thompson that was saved by Otte.

Goal number two of the match came in the 23rd minute when senior Jamie Vollmer netted his second of the season. This time it was left back Patrick Doody with the service as he crossed the ball into Vollmer, who took a shot with the side of his foot and hit the upper 90. Doody is now tied for the team lead in assists with two, while McConnell also has two helpers on the year.

Indiana was looking to cement the game before the halftime break and it did just that with Thompson's score in the 39th minute, giving Indiana a two-goal cushion. Vollmer also played a role in this score, with his shot requiring a save from Otte that bounced right out to Thompson for the rebound score.

Thompson leads Indiana with three goals this season, as all three have come in IU's past four outings. Tonight also marked the third time in the past four games IU has put two or more goals on the scoreboard.

Indiana held a 9-5 shot advantage in the first half, putting six of its nine attempts on frame. Webb had two saves in the first half, finishing with four for the match.

The second half did not provide much offense on either side of the field with the Billikens out-shooting the Hoosiers 4-2 in the period. The last of Webb's four saves came in the 80th minute when a quick reaction save on a shot from Raymond Lee kept the two-goal advantage for IU.

The final 45 minutes was also mired in physical play with four of six yellow cards issued in the game coming in the second half.
