Foundations of Fundraising

NCAA Foundations of Fundraising

With a focus on women and ethnic minorities, Foundations of Fundraising is a collaborative effort between the NCAA and the National Association of Athletic Development Directors designed to educate future leaders (interns, graduate assistants, development associates, etc.) in the field of development in intercollegiate athletics. The eight-week hybrid learning course is created so that learners will view development/fundraising as a viable career option with great advancement opportunities.

What You’ll Learn

Learners in the Foundations of Fundraising virtual course will walk away having an in-depth exposure and introduction into athletics development as a viable career path within college sports. Participation in the two-month virtual program will provide essential career development to allow learners to thrive in their current roles while preparing them to obtain elevated positions in the industry. A key focus for curriculum content will be learner visualization of fundraising as a pathway to opportunity to access senior-level positions in college athletics, particularly as an avenue to ascend to the athletics director seat.

The 30 cohort members will have the opportunity to participate in an experiential class project that will promote active learning and implementation. The course will begin with a detailed exploration of the principles of fundraising and development before diving into a curriculum to boost participant capabilities. Additionally, learners will gain insight from a series of development-centric leadership speakers scheduled in consultation with NAADD who will enhance learning experiences.

How is Foundations of Fundraising structured?

Foundations of Fundraising is a two-month commitment that will be delivered virtually. Learners will begin the program with a virtual orientation outlining the components of the program and setting the scene for the program. Beginning in January, the group will connect on a weekly basis, meeting virtually from 6 to 9 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesdays for eight weeks. Learners who attend all eight sessions will be eligible to receive a NAADD membership for one year and registration for the 2024 National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Convention in Las Vegas, NV to participate in the NAADD convention programming.

Who is Eligible?

Participants must be a current intern, graduate assistant or entry level professional within an athletics department at an NCAA member school, conference office, affiliate organization or the NCAA national office. Individuals must have completed a bachelor’s degree to be eligible to apply.
