The NCAA has named Katie Koenig as vice president of finance and administrative operations. With more than 15 years of experience, Koenig has made significant contributions to national and global firms in various industries, including consumer products, insurance, marketing and manufacturing.
During the last year, Koenig has served the NCAA by establishing the organization's financial planning and analysis department. This included implementing an enterprise planning module system for financial planning and delivering a cost-to-serve model around NCAA championships. This effort required extensive collaboration, training and ongoing support with key stakeholders.
Before joining the NCAA, Koenig served as the chief financial officer of a global product business unit within Stanley Black & Decker, where she established new methods of evaluating capital project investments, developed tools to improve resource management and prioritized scaling capabilities across the company.
Koenig's extensive organizational and financial transformation background makes her a valuable addition to the NCAA in this expanded role. In her new capacity, she will serve on the President's Cabinet. She will continue to lead financial planning and analysis and expand her leadership to purchasing, event operations, facilities and travel. While continuing to serve the Division I Board of Governors Finance and Audit Committee and the Division I Board of Directors Finance Committee, Koenig will be an acting member of the National Invitation Tournament Board.
"I am truly grateful to be offered this opportunity," Koenig said. "Since joining the NCAA, one thing that has really struck me is the passion of those working here for our student-athletes and championships. I am looking forward to working more closely with such talented teams and leaders."
Koenig has recently partnered with John Macrina, the NCAA's chief technology officer, to bring integrated financial dashboards to stakeholders. In her new role, she will continue to push for tools to drive insights and efficiencies while championing the organization's financial health.
"Katie's terrific! Plain and simple. She's earned this opportunity, and we're fortunate to have someone as talented as her at the national office," NCAA President Charlie Baker said.
Mario Morris, the NCAA senior vice president of administration and chief financial officer, said, "We are excited to elevate Katie Koenig to serve as our vice president of finance and administrative operations. She is a tremendous leader who has significantly impacted our people, culture and organization. Her leadership and extensive experience will be instrumental in driving our future financial and operations strategy."
Koenig will continue to report directly to Morris. She will begin in her new capacity Jan. 27.
