In Her Words HOW BASKETBALL CHANGED MY LIFE

Thank you so much for all that you’ve done for me. I can honestly say you have helped build and mold me into the young woman that I am today. Without you, I wouldn’t have gotten the opportunity to get an amazing education, meet the most wonderful people at Lubbock Christian University, and play for the best coaching staff and with the best teammates I could have ever imagined. You’ve given me some of the most important relationships in my life, and for that, I am truly blessed.

Because of you, I was given a platform to share God’s love, light, and grace, and I am so grateful. God gave me the gifts and talents that I have today, and I thank Him every day that He gave me you. I never knew the impact that you would have on my life when I started this journey 17 years ago.

I knew the first day I picked up a basketball at age 5, that it would be the beginning of a life-long love. In elementary, you provided me with fun friendships and memories that I will never forget. In middle school, you helped me find my confidence, and the ability to find myself and my voice. In high school, you taught me how to persevere through hard times, how to work hard no matter how many hours in the gym it took, and how to truly love the game more than I had ever before. And in college, you gave me more than I could ever ask for.

As time has passed, I now realize the great impact that you had on my life. No matter what life threw my way I could count on you. Christ gave me you in order to find peace in life, a stable rock that I would lean on through some difficult times. Peace was found in you, through practice, shooting with teammates, playing in games, and even in getting to hang out with ShaunMichael and hold baby LauraJane on the bus rides.

You brought me strength when I needed it the most, and happiness when it seemed lacking. You gave me a safe place when I needed it most. You gave me my best friends and an amazing community to be a part of. One thing that you have brought me that I’d never be able to thank you enough for, is my husband. We both attended LCU because of you, and I can honestly say you’re the best wingman ever. Thank you for all you’ve done in my life.
